How Smart Monitoring Reduced Wildlife Conflict and Improved Operations in Felda Pasak

22 December 2025

Felda Pasak is one of Malaysia’s well known oil palm estates. It provides income and stability for hundreds of families who depend on agriculture. Managing such a large plantation is never easy, especially when the land is shared with wildlife

The plantation sits close to a forest that is home to animals such as elephants, wild boars, and monkeys. These animals often wander into the fields searching for food or shelter. When that happens, crops are damaged and workers face risks

For years, the only way to monitor this activity was through manual ground patrols. Workers had to walk through long stretches of terrain and spend hours trying to detect movement. It was slow and sometimes dangerous. By the time a problem was noticed, the damage was already done

To solve this, Felda Pasak introduced a smarter and safer way to monitor both crops and wildlife.

Bringing Technology into Daily Operations

With support from Aonic, the plantation began using the DJI Matrice 4T to cover large areas of land quickly and safely. The drone gives the team a complete view from above and helps them collect accurate, real time information about what is happening across the estate.

During the day, the camera captures wide and clear images of the plantation. The team can check the condition of the trees, monitor vehicles, and track animal activity near the borders. At night, the thermal sensor detects heat signals that reveal animal movement, even in complete darkness.

This technology gives the management team a full picture of the land, including areas that are difficult to reach.

How the System Works

Every flight begins with careful planning. The team identifies high risk zones near forest boundaries where wildlife is often active. Using DJI Pilot 2, they design a flight route that allows the DJI Matrice 4T to follow the same path every time, ensuring consistent data.

Once the drone takes off, it scans the plantation and streams live visuals and thermal data to the control post. When animal movement is detected, the exact location is marked immediately. Through DJI FlightHub 2, the data is shared with field teams who can respond quickly to prevent damage.

This process is efficient, repeatable, and safe, reducing the need for manual patrols and improving coordination between field and control teams.

The Results on the Ground

  • After several months of operation, Felda Pasak began to see real progress.

  • The number of wildlife incidents decreased

  • Teams could identify animal movement earlier and strengthen boundary areas before any damage occurred.

  • Night monitoring, once nearly impossible, became one of the most effective parts of the routine.

Workers no longer needed to patrol in the dark or enter difficult terrain. The information from the drone allowed them to plan harvesting and maintenance safely. Productivity improved as staff focused on targeted responses instead of lengthy ground checks.

Each flight that once required an entire team now takes less than an hour and delivers more accurate data than days of manual work.

Over time, the plantation also began to understand wildlife behavior patterns. By learning where and when animals move, they created natural boundaries and reduced conflict without harm.

Safer and More Sustainable Agriculture

The biggest change for Felda Pasak was not just the use of technology but a shift in mindset. The team realized that protecting crops and protecting nature can happen together.

By using the DJI Matrice 4T, they reduced the need for fuel based patrol vehicles, cut operational costs, and lowered disturbance to wildlife. The plantation became more efficientsafe, and environmentally responsible

The success in Felda Pasak is now inspiring other plantations to follow the same path. What began as a way to reduce animal conflict has become a model for sustainable plantation management

Aonic continues to work with agriculture partners across Malaysia to bring these smart solutions to more estates. The goal is to build a future where technology helps people and nature thrive together

Agriculture is no longer just about production. It is about responsibility, safety, and balance. The story of Felda Pasak proves that when innovation is guided by care, everyone benefits.

Conclusion

Smart monitoring has transformed the way Felda Pasak operates. What once required days of physical labor now takes a single flight. The estate is safer, the crops are healthier, and wildlife is better protected.

With tools like the DJI Matrice 4T, plantations can move toward a future where efficiency and sustainability grow together
